Antic Mercat del Peix - Biomedicina, biodiversitat i benestar planetari
The Antic Mercat del Peix project involves the creation of a new research and innovation complex covering some 45,400 m2 focusing on precision medicine, biodiversity and societal wellbeing, which will be located on land formerly occupied by the market, right next to Pompeu Fabra University’s Citadel campus.
It is being developed by Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) and the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE CSIC-UPF). In its initial stage, it has been supported by the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). The Antic Mercat del Peix project is one of the initiatives within the Citadel of Knowledge project, which has the institutional support of the Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia, the Government of Spain, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the University of Barcelona (UB), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Pasqual Maragall Foundation (FPM), the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST).
Urban development project
Eleven institutions are joining forces to turn the Antic Mercat del Peix into a benchmark urban knowledge hub in southern Europe.
Citadel of Knowledge
The Antic Mercat del Peix is part of this scientific, cultural and urban development initiative, which aims to turn Citadel park and its surroundings into a new area of the city focusing on knowledge.
